Visualize SaaS usage,

- Visualizing SaaS used within the company and supporting measures against shadow IT -

SB Technology Corp.

SB Technology Corp. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Shinichi Ata; hereinafter referred to as SBT) will begin offering "SaaS Patrol," a service for companies that visualizes and centrally manages their internal SaaS usage, from May 27, 2024.

This service streamlines the SaaS management tasks of an organization's information systems department and security personnel, and reduces security risks associated with their use. The centralized management function for SaaS and tenants used within the company allows you to move away from inefficient operations such as management using Excel, and makes it possible to visualize users who have missed deletion. In addition, the service detection function by email detects users who use prohibited services or services without permission as so-called shadow IT, and leads them to appropriate use, thereby reducing security risks.
In addition, we will be offering a one-month free trial period where you can use all of the functions of SaaS Patrol.

■Background

In recent years, the number of companies using SaaS has increased due to the promotion of diverse working styles such as teleworking and digitalization, but there is a continuous stream of damage such as unintended information disclosure and leakage due to the lack of proper management of SaaS use within organizations. In a questionnaire survey *1 conducted by SBT targeting information system personnel and others who are in a position to consider introducing SaaS within their companies, 48.4% responded that they "only partially understand" or "do not understand at all" the use of SaaS within their companies. The use of SaaS is expected to increase further in the future, and organizations are required to correctly understand and manage the actual usage. However, there is a challenge in that it is difficult for information system personnel and security personnel to comprehensively understand the SaaS used in their organizations.
To solve this problem, SBT offers "SaaS Patrol," which centrally manages SaaS usage within the company.

■ Features of this service

- Visualize and centrally manage in-house SaaS usage, and improve the efficiency of SaaS management operations.
Regarding SaaS management, the service ledger allows you to register and manage authorized users for each service, eliminating the need for Excel-based management (see Figure 1). In addition, as a function for general users, you can promote the use of authorized services and prevent the use of prohibited services by publishing a service catalog that defines your company's usage policy (permitted, application required, prohibited) for each service within the company. Furthermore, the tenant management function allows you to register SaaS on a tenant-by-tenant basis, making it possible to visualize tenant users who have not been deleted due to leaving the company, etc.

-Detection and visualization of shadow IT (unauthorized SaaS)
Your email service *2 By linking this service to the SaaS, you can visualize the services being used within your company and the users who are using them based on various notification emails received from the SaaS. This email-based service detection function detects and visualizes users who are using prohibited services or unauthorized services as so-called shadow IT (see Figure 2). By ensuring proper use in line with your company's usage policies, you can reduce security risks.
From the summer of 2024, by linking with asset management tools, it will be possible to detect SaaS use that does not go through the internal network and SaaS use in personal emails.
